Which is Easier to learn, Clarinet or Alto Saxophone?

Hey, You should definitely start on clarinet first if you’re planning on playing both. It is much easier to go from playing clarinet to playing saxophone because your lips and ’embouchure’ need to be more firm for clarinet. The fingering is more complicated on clarinet and the instrument has a greater range. For example, the clarinet has a ‘register key’ while the saxophone has an ‘octave key’. The octave key makes notes play an octave higher when pressed, so that simplifies things. I would suggest playing clarinet for maybe the first year. Didn’t do that myself…. but what I have learned is that concentrating on one thing will make you better at one thing as opposed to okay at two things. For me, I started playing clarinet because I wanted to play saxophone, but the teachers recommended clarinet first. It is a cool instrument. I started off with a Yamaha and then bought a LeBlanc.
