Which is Cost Efficient – Unprocessed Rice Hull (RH), Carbonized RH, or RH Charcoal Briquettes?
In the Philippines, Rice Hull or Rice Husk or RH (the waste By-product in the Rice Milling process) is now bought by some factories as Biomass Fuel who have reduced their dependency upon Fossil Fuel. Gone are the days when Rice Millers used to hire Truckers to dispose of their WASTE Rice Hull. Nowadays, Rice Millers sell their “raw” RH at a price range of P0.70 – P1.20 per kg. Normally, a 10-wheeler Truck would load about 7-8 tons if “raw” RH is packed in re-used Rice Sacks – or about 11 tons if “raw” RH is simply poured & foot-tampered by people into the open-top of the same 10-wheeker Truck. To cut down on Trucking Cost by maximizing Load-Factor per Truck-load, Truckers have modified their Trucks into 22-wheelers loading 22 tons. As PhilRice has developed farm-level technologies to convert “raw” RH into “carbonized” RH (CRH) which then could be converted into RH Charcoal Briquettes or used as Raw Material Component in the production of Organic Fertilizer (among others uses), which of
