Which is considered the correct Number of the Beast: 666 or 616?
The reference to a number of the Beast occurs exactly once in the Bible, in Revelations 13. The oldest known copy is an Egyptian papyrus that was found in the desert and is from around the year 300 AD. It has 616 as the number. More recent copies have 666, which was probably a typographical error made by later copiers. The number is generally thought to be a coded reference to the emporer Nero, a prosecutor of Christians.
