Which is better the local farmers market or organic food from the supermarket?
The best of both worlds would be organic food at the local farmer’s market. However, for most people that is not an option. It is really better to get your food where it is locally grown. The reason for that is that the nutrients lost are minimal when you buy locally. The organic food travelling from a grocery store usually takes 1 -2 weeks to reach you whereas the foods from a farmer’s market are only 1 day old. During those 2 weeks of transport there is a potential for loss of folate and vitamins A, B, and C due to light and heat exposure.
