Which is better Super 14s or Heineken Cup?
South Africa, New Zealand and Australia have, on average, been the strongest rugby teams in the world over the past two decades (with England, sometimes France, and sometimes Ireland entering consideration occasionally). As a result, the Super 10/12/14 tournaments have usually provided the highest level of provincial rugby in the world (in the sense of the strongest teams) and they have generated many innovations including the yellow card system, updated ruck laws, and now the ELVs. However, recently many Southern Hemisphere players have moved north because of the money available in the Heineken Cup, and so there is a very diverse group of playing styles on display there. If it came down to a tournament of strength, the Super 14 teams have historically been the strongest.
