Which is better, Insight therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy?
Research will show that the one thing that determines the efficacy of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client, regardless of the type of therapy being used. Personally, I always used a mixture of different styles of therapy to fit the client and/or the situation that came up during therapy. If bad habits is the thing you want to treat, Behavior Modification Therapy may be the thing for you. A therapist who is very good at recognizing irrational thinking is what you may need. A good therapist does not solve your problems, but instead guides YOU to solve your own. Find a therapist who challenges you, one who is not controlling. Sometimes a good therapist is determined not so much by what he/she does, but rather by what they do not do.
