Which is better for a neck piercing ptf pipe or metal bar?

Most piercers will suggest a metal surface barbell be used for a nape piercing (the back of your neck). These barbells are shaped a bit like a staple or a football post with the ends raised at a sharp angle to the length of the bar. This shape prevents the ends of the bar from putting pressure on the surface of the skin which can irritate the piercing. The metal vs PTFE debate is one where piercers have very strong feelings, but the predominate opinion I’ve heard in the community still favors surface barbells. You may also want to look into microdermals if you intend to keep the piercing for years to come. I have had the good fortune to keep my nape piercings for the past 4 years or so. They were performed with surface barbells and have held up very well.
