The first two answers are not correct. CRNA schools are very competitive to get in to, so you should probably work on your GPA no matter what you want to do. Anesthesiologists usually make over 300 K per year (one of the highest MD specialties). CRNA’s make around 150 K. In larger hospitals anesthesia is most commonly provided by an “anesthesia care team” meaning there is an anesthesiologist who supervises up to 4 nurse anesthetists. The CRNA’s usually are the ones actually giving the anesthesia. Many rural facilities have very few or no anesthesiologists, so CRNA’s work independently in these facilities. Some states do require that a CRNA be “supervised” by a psysician, but this could be the surgeon who knows very little about what you are doing. 13 states require no supervision. No states require supervision by an anesthesiologist.
