Both styles of facings have been around for a long time and although I prefer balanced symmetrical facings, there is a large following of fine dedicated clarinetists who prefer asymmetrical facings. Frank Kaspar faced his mouthpieces with asymmetrical facings and several mouthpiece craftsmen today utilize the asymmetrical facing.
