Which is better a Pedigree or Mongrel?

There are good breeders and bad breeders who produce BOTH types of dogs. There is absolutely no evidence to support the belief that mongrel dogs are healthier than a well bred purebred. I would agree that “purebreds” from irresponsible breeders may have health issues, but when you go to a reputable breeder, you significantly lower those chances. Reputable breeders do genetic testing and health clearances to avoid producing dogs with health issues, BYBs don’t. Mutt can inherit the bad genes from their parents as easily as a purebred can. If the “breeder” of mutts isn’t doing health clearances, there is no way they can be healthier. With registered pedigrees, you know what dogs your dog came from. It has nothing to do with showing. A reputable breeder knows their lines and what possible health issues may be in them. That is the benefit of registered pedigrees. It all comes down to where you get your dog. Add- If you want to avoid linebreeding (not inbreeding) in a purebred, it is not dif

Its not really a matter of which is better. It really depends what you are looking for. If you don’t really mind & just want a friend or companion to love then go to a shelter & pick a dog that looks healthy & happy. You will be saving a life & that would be a wonderful thing! Of course there is never a 100% health guarantee with any dog, no matter what you decide on. If you decide you really want a pug because that breed appeals to you, then you need to be aware that this is a breed that is fraught with all kinds of problems & it would be imperative that you find a breeder that is reputable. You would need to do a lot of research & check out the breeder’s credentials. Find out how often they breed, do they do health checks etc. You would also need to do your own research on pugs in particular to find out what problems are in the breed & what to look out for. Finding a good breeder is not as easy as it sounds & means you may have to wait for a long time for a litter to be born. I waite

A dog with a pedigree from a reputable breeder has: a 2 year health guarantee health clearances for common diseases in that breed ( eliminated through 5+ generations of breeding) the ongoing support of the breeder first shots I choosea dog with a pedigree not for the piece of paper but for what that pedigree says as listed above.

Total myth. Mutts do NOT live longer and there is no such thing as hybrid vigor. A dog is a dog is a dog. They all get the same diseases and genetic problems; the difference is, when you buy from a REPUTABLE breeder, they have done all the proper health testing relevant to their breed so the odds are MUCH better that the puppy will be healthy and live a longer life. I have nothing against mutts, believe me. I just prefer purebreds because I like the predictability of knowing what they will be like physically and temperamentally. You don’t have that advantage with a mutt. I also enjoy participating in dog shows. If this isn’t important to you, by all means, visit a shelter, or contact a rescue! Nothing wrong at all with saving a life!

if you want to get the best, you cant decide WHEN to get one,the breeder will only breed once or twice in a females life,so they have waiting lists, you should look through the AKC for breeders (they do not do incest,at least not close, they also monitor the genetics, and breed things OUT of the puppies) they will have good breeders,if your gonna get a “mongrel” one PLEASE do not get one off craigs list or kajiji (or whatever it is) get one off http://www.petfinder.com because the BYB that breed on the other sites dont monitor them or anything, they only care about money, theyre as good as small puppy mills.
