Which is better- a LCD TV or a LED TV and why?
For about the hundredth time – LED TVs *are* LCD TVs. They just use LEDs for the backlight instead of fluorescent lamps. ( They do not have better “motion” than standard LCDs, because the LCD display panel and its supporting circuits are the same. ) LED-LCD TVs do use a bit less power than standard LCDs, they are thinner, and they measure with higher contrast ratios – but the “contrast ratio” spec is a very inflated number anyway. The most expensive LED-LCD TVs do implement “selective dimming” which allows dark areas of the picture to be rendered with better shadow detail, but this is rather coarse-grained as there are not that many LEDs behind the panel.
