I have found that the best thing you can do to care for the elderly is to show interest in their lives by asking questions– for hours, if they have the energy– and showing, through your willingness to be a part of their life, that they have value and that you love and respect them. Also, remember that the elderly don’t usually handle change or new circumstances very well, and the best thing you can do for them is let them continue in their routines and try not to introduce them to new technology or systems.
