Which is best for my dog- Euthanasia or prolonging his life by a couple of months?
You are a very sensible and loving dog owner, putting your dog’s needs before your own pain of losing him. The pain we feel at the loss of them is so intense but it pales into insignificance compared to our beloved dog’s physical pain. Bless you for being who you are, your dog is very lucky to have you to make the right decision at the right time for him. It’s all about quality of life. If your boy is still enjoying his life and is happy then I would let him go on a little longer. However if you see any small change for the worse then the time has come because you know there will be ever worsening changes to follow. We can spare them that. Our terminally ill dogs have good days and bad days. When you see less good days you will know what must be done. What I did with my dog with cancer was list 4 things she really loved in life. Eating, chasing a ball, going for a run in the park and playing with the other dogs at home. When she no longer enjoyed one of those things I made the decision
