The engagement ring goes on the left and on the ring finger, the one right next to the pinky, if by chance you have more than five fingers on your hand its the one to the right of your pinky. The reason for this is that there is a vein in that particular finger than leads directly to the heart, and you keep your loved one as close to your heart as possible, also when you finally walk down the aisle, the wedding band goes on the inside of the engagement ring so that it is the closest to the heart of the two rings. hope that helps. As most of the answers above have said, in most countries the engagement ring traditionally goes on the left hand. It does however move to the right hand on the day of the wedding so that it doesn’t ‘get in the way’ of the wedding band. After the wedding ceremony the engagement ring then goes back to the left hand on top of the wedding band, that is to say that the engagement ring is the closer of the two ring to the tip of your finger.
