Which guinea pigs can breed together?
Colors don’t matter when it comes to birth defects. Genetics do-and the only way to ensure that is to go to reputable breeders that show (and win) and that also have their stock fully vetted and checked for defects. Almost all guinea pigs that you find in petstore are in poor health and most have births defects…many of which aren’t visible. Please don’t breed-for every pregnancy a female has she has a 20% chance of dying-ESPECIALLY if you don’t have a nearby vet experienced with guinea pigs that the females are taken to several times throughout their 56 day pregnancy. Guinea pig vets are pretty rare since most of the common “safe” medicines and anesthesia will kill a guinea pig. Also, for every well cared for guinea pig there are at least 10 neglected/unwanted guinea pigs that will end up dumped somewhere-sometimes at a shelter that will have them PTS, sometimes at the local meat market/meat auction, sometimes illegally (and cruelly) outside.
