Which group in the periodic table does not form compounds?

0

Noble gasses (group 8A) do not form compounds. This is because each row of electrons have a certain amount needed to fill it. The first row has two, the second has eight, the third has eight etc. Chemicals form bonds when they transfer electrons e.g. Sodium (Na) has 11 electrons, so it has 2 in the first row, 8 in the second row and 1 in the third. Chlorine (Cl) has 17 electrons, so it has 2 in the first row, 8 in the second row and 7 in the third. Na and Cl bond by transferring one of Na’s electrons to Cl, so they both have only full shelves (Na has 2,8 and Cl has 2,8,8). Noble gases already have full rows e.g. Helium has two electrons, Neon has 10 (2,8), so there are no gaps or spares to trade with. That being said, it is still possible for almost every element to form some compound.
