Which GPS receiver brand best works in Indonesia?
Garmins are readily available on the international market. They have been around for years along with Magellan. Now, many or all of the common brands of GPS receivers do not have maps available for every country or major city of the world. Even if they had maps available, they may not have the type for the tourist or a person trying to navigate a city such as Jakarta or the countryside on Bali. However, there are plenty of topographical maps available and you either have to submit a request for one or possibly find one that is in downloadable format on the internet. If your country has an embassy in Indonesia, my recommendation is to contact them and ask for suggestions, links, contact info and so forth. To use the topographical maps, you may be required you to set your GPS device to “MGRS” or even “lat long”.
