Bessie Smith was the only singer known as the Empress Of The Blues.Ma Rainey was known as the Mother Of The Blues for her role in mentoring several “Classic Blues” singers, and for being one of the oldest/earliest. I’ve never heard of any others referred to as “Empress”.
