Which fantasy warhammer races became which 40k races?
In general, treat them as if they’re different universes. However, MOST races do have analogs for their space-faring counterparts. Their stories don’t connect, but they are who and what they are. The Brettonians are effectively the Space Marines, and the Empire are the Imperial Guard. The Imperial Guard used to have an offshoot known as the Squats, who were effectively dwarves. They were since killed off by the Tyranids. High Elves and Wood Elves are the Eldar. Dark Elves are the Dark Eldar. Orks are Orcs, now shootier and stompier. Chaos are still effectively the same bunch of whiney cape-wearing emo-goths, who have simply switched their minstrel music for a bad Linkin Park soundtrack, and their Wands of Intense Knobbliness (+7 against sunlight) for demonic rocket launchers.
