His letter further highlights the problem that in these days of `evidence-based medicine’ we have very little evidence on which to base our decisions. Maybe we need another IVF workshop under the auspices of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) where possible protocols for prospective randomized control trials on various aspects of embryo transfer can be devised. Only if we expose embryo transfer technique to such critical evaluation will we be able to optimise this very important part of IVF treatment for the 21st Century.
