Which European nation has the worst record for atrocities against innocent people?
While I’d give Spain a nod for it’s version of the Inquisition – it surpassed other contemporary inquisitions and is the most well known – and for the actions of its conquistadors in the Americas I don’t think it earns top spot. England would be my runner up. To force the Union Act in at the tail end of the 1600’s England manipulated food costs and other trade issues to destroy the Scottish economy, then bribed the Scottish nobility into voting for an act that was vastly unpopular. Add this to the brutal invasions of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland and the suppression of those peoples natural rights through physical measures and England begins to look like a monster. Then in the 19th century England forced Ireland to export food during the Potato Famine – when millions were forced to flea Ireland or starve.
