The visa upon arival, (or visa waiver stamp in your passport) for the Schengen countries allows you to stay 90 days out of each 180 days. That is for all Schengen countries, most continental European countries are part of the Schengen agreement zone. The UK and Ireland are outside that zone and have their own rules and allow more for people from Australia. You could travel in continental Europe for almost 90 days, go to England for a stay of at least 91 days and return to the Schengen zone for a second stay, if you do have enough money. For the UK you can get a working holiday visa, I do not think you can get one for the Schengen zone, and when you cross the borders into and out of the UK they will check your passport and will ask you about the amount of money you have, specially if you have several stamps for Europe already. If you can work in the UK to top up your funds, you will have it much easier to explain what and how. Do not overstay, because when found out you will get a note
