Which ethnic groups are somewhat okay to stereotype in America and why?
Let’s say you decide it’s only OK to make stereotypes about your own ethnic group. For example purposes, let’s say you’re Green (it’s a recently discovered ethnic group of the vegetable persuasion). So you say to another Green person, “Us green people are so stupid…we have the brain cells of a cucumber.” What if the other green person doesn’t agree with you, and actually went to Harvard? They’re going to think you’re narrow-minded and uneducated. What if the other green person does agree with you? Then they’re only likely to perpetuate the stereotype, and think it’s OK to be _____________ (fill in the blank). What if you say that to another person who isn’t green (say, someone pink)? Do you want them to think that you’re someone who stereotypes? They’ll wonder what you’re saying about Pink people behind their backs. Or, if they agree with you, they might repeat the stereotype to other Pink people…that only serves to perpetuate the stereotype. Or what if they repeat it to a Green pe
