Which english speaking newspaper is for me ? ?
The Guardian the Independent or the Times are probably the newspapers with the reputation for higher quality in the UK. They tend to have a higher reading age than some of the others and attempt some degree of balance in their content. Interesting that The Guardian should be seen as “leftist”. In global terms it is probably more towards the centre/right of the political spectrum. In the economy-focused western world, the emphasis on markets, capital growth and the relating of news stories in this context means that any newspaper not owned or controlled and influenced by the powerful and wealthy appears toned down in its message. You are correct though that because of the current culture and ideology, the Guardian is frequently viewed as on the left politically. Interestingly in the Wikipedia entry about The Guardian (link below) it is suggested that the newspaper is left but then relates articles, many of which historically indicate more of an establishment standpoint.
