I have worked in Special Needs Education for 17 years. Initially as an Support Worker and now an Learning Support Assistant. I don’t believe that any training can fully prepare you and you really need to get some on the job experience. My employer offers CACHE training which is equivalent to NVQ. There are 2 levels and take approximately 2 years. Very worthwhile doing at the same time as working with the children.
