Which course are you studying at Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College?

I am studying the NVQ Level 1 in Hospitality & Catering. I started off on the 14-16 school links programme and now I come into the Hammersmith site three days a week Monday to Wednesday from 9am-4.30pm. I started in September and really enjoy it. What are you learning about? On the course we do a lot of practical stuff in the kitchens. We learn about food preparation, health and hygiene, cooking meals and alongside all of that, we learn about CV writing, IT skills and communications. This is really going to help me when I start applying for jobs. How is college different to school? Well, for a start at school there are no professional kitchens. At college we are using the same equipment that we will use when we start working. I could go into a restaurant and be confident about using the ovens and hot plates for example. Also, an employer is more likely to offer me a job if he knows that I already know a lot of stuff, instead of him having to train me on the job.
