Which country is more devoutly Catholic: Poland, Ireland, Mexico, Malta, or Italy?
Malta 99% of the nation is Roman Catholic, church attendance rates there exceed 90%, abortion is strictly illegal there (even in cases of rape, incest, or the mother’s life is in danger), and divorce is not at all permitted. All other countries allow divorce, all other countries (except Poland and Ireland) allow abortion, and prostitution is de facto tolerated in all other countries. Church attendance rates are also markedly lower in those countries too. Each of the other countries has had anti-Catholic elements in its history: Poland (Communist regime), Ireland (Protestant Unionists), Mexico (anticlerical regime in the 1930s), Italy (Italian unificationists in the 19th century). Malta, by contrast, was directly ruled by the Knights Templar for more than 300 years.
