France banned displaying religious symbols at schools in 2004 and they won’t even allow Muslims girls to wear a hijab in public schools. Muslim Americans are allowed to wear hijabs in public schools here in the US, so I think they went a little far with that in France. I don’t see anything wrong with people being allowed to display their beliefs in public or at school. Freedom of expression means that we should have a right to freely express our opinons. For example, I support GLBT rights, so I often wear a gay pride symbol necklace to school, so if I can do that, a Christian or Wicacn or whatever they are, should be allowed to display their symbol so long as it does not disrupt the classroom learning.

It’s France. In public schools actually. Their government is very secular and they ban all religious symbols in schools ONLY. I believe they are concerned about Islamic extremists. I hear that they are having some problems with young Muslim immigrants in that country – there have been riots in Paris. I personally support people wearing whatever they want including in schools (unless it covers the entire face). At least the ruling on religious symbols applies to all religions over there, not simply one.
