When the League of Nations members forced Germany to accept the fact that they started World War I (noted in the Treaty of Versailles), it was utter humiliation for Germany. Also, certain economic and territorial definition policies of League of Nations members and the United States left Japan with the proverbial empty bag in World War I, and reduced German territory. When Germany started its search for lebensraum (living space) drive, the prominent League of Nations members – such as Great Britain and France – just protested but didn’t act. When Japan started its expansionist drive and its Greater Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere approach, the League of Nations and the United States thought they were just kidding until Pearl Harbor, the fall of Malaya and the Philippines.
