Everyone here is saying that acetone is not a health hazard, but they are all wrong. It is poses a serious (level 4) fire hazard. And it poses a level 2 (moderate) health hazard. To get information on the health hazards of acetone, I suggest you look up the material safety data sheet (type in “MSDS acetone” into any search engine). It is toxic if swallowed and it can permeate into your blood stream by simple contact with the skin. Of course, a little bit of it is not that dangerous (relative to more toxic things), but it can cause irritation to the skin, lungs, and other areas. The main issue with touching it is that it dries out your skin, but dissolving the fats in your skin and leaching them out. (This is NOT a good way to lose weight!)
