According to the latest labor market report issued Wednesday by East Tennessee State University, the Tri-Cities metro region – covering Sullivan, Hawkins, Washington, Carter and Unicoi counties in Tennessee and Scott and Washington counties in Virginia – reported a collective gain of 3,214 jobs in the fourth quarter, as employment increased 1.47 percent to 222,220. At the same time, the region’s unemployment rate fell 19.87 percent to 4.61 percent. Some 10,732 people were listed on the jobless rolls.
