Which cities in Florida have the highest hurricane vulnerability risk?
All coastal cities/towns in FL have a high hurricane risk. The highest risk exists the further south you go…that would be Key West, Miami, West Palm Beach, and Fort Myers. Recent history shows those towns are threatened and struck more frequently than elsewhere in Florida. But be careful, historical records only go back so far. In fact, while the current century shows most major FL hurricanes striking the southern half of the state, available records from the prior century show northern FL and southern GA being struck more a number of times. The northern part of the state tends to have a slightly lower risk only because it usually requires a hurricane to start recurving to the north…and once that process begins, it usually increases to the point where FL gets missed…often systems follow the warm Gulf Stream located well offshore of northern FL. So, RELATIVELY SPEAKING, cities in northern FL have a lower risk than those in southern FL, but all coastal locations will be struck…ev
