Which basketball team will Mike Beck become the coach of?
The Chiefland High basketball team has been undisciplined in the past, but those days are over, coach Mike Beck told the Chiefland Rotary Club on Oct. 21. Beck, who is in his first season, briefed the Rotarians on what to expect this season. Beck, who retired from coaching in 2005 to move to Indiana and raise horses, returned to the Chiefland area a year ago. He previously coached in Lecanto. “The basketball team this year is not what it has been,” Beck said. “They were undisciplined,” Beck said. “They were arguing calls, they were arguing with each other, they were arguing with the officials. “You will see none of that here. I have never had a technical call on me.” He said with officials, coaches and athletes have to realize they are human beings. And, he said, they deserve to be treated with respect, because it will pay in the end. “You are going to have the same officials year after year after year.” Beck is not building up hopes for the basketball season. “We’re inexperienced.
