Which audio file occupies the least hard disk space?
Well, it’s all about the bit amount. The bit amount determines the quality of the music track. For example, 64 bits is pretty low and the song won’t sound too good. 128 bits is average; it will sound good but it can sound better. 192 bits is pretty good; you will be able to hear everything clearly. 256 bits is close to perfect; doesn’t get much better than this. 320 bits is the highest computers and the human ear can render. Anything beyond this and you won’t hear the difference. Most people don’t hear any difference after 192 bits (only audiophiles, such as myself, hear the difference). Basically, the higher the bit amount, the more space it takes up. If you don’t want to take up too much space, I would stick with 128 or less. Personally, I don’t like anything less than 192, but that’s just me. To find out the bit count of a song, right click on the song file, click properties and it should tell you.
