WHICH ARE THE MAIN FESTIVALS OF JAPAN AND WHY THEY ARE CELEBRATED?
Japan has lots of festivals big and small local and national. It’s really a matter of opinion as to which ones are the “main.” Here are some: Setsubun – Feb 3rd – is like Halloween, Groundhog Day, and New Years rolled into one. On this day people throw beans to drive away devils who represent in some ways winter. In family homes, fathers will dress as devils and their kids will pelt them with beans. Many temples and shrines thru-out Japan celebrate Setsubun where they do a mami-maki: throwing beans and other stuff to gathered crowds.
