The K1000 is a good choice. As is the Canon AE1 and A1. I have all three of the cameras (well, the K1000 is with a friend of mine in Taiwan for the better part of this coming year if not longer). Each of the ones I’ve mentioned I’ve picked up at thrift stores for $10-$30. I also have some suggestions for rangefinders, if you’re curious about them. Since they aren’t SLRs, you’re not looking directly through the lens, but I’ve loved the shots I’ve taken with them. Canonet GIII QL17 – you can usually get this for around $30, it’s nice and easy to load. The bad part is that its battery was discontinued, and the meter isn’t calibrated for normal alkaline batteries so ya gotta use a Zinc Air battery that lasts for months at best instead of years at best. Another bonus is that it uses a leaf shutter, allowing shutter speeds all the way to 1/500th of a second.
