Which 12 present day countries would make up the Holy Roman Empire?
~There are no present day countries that make up the Holy Roman Empire. The HRE no longer exists. Edit: Language is a precise tool and must be used precisely to have any rational meaning. There is no HRE presently, thus no present day countries make it up. Speaking hypothetically of some potential hypothetical construct, China and Algeria are as valid as would be Italy and France. Among the last “nations” actually extant in the Holy Roman Empire would include Saxony, Bavaria and Hanover but they no longer exist and Germany did not exist during the days of the HRE. The question is inane. The EU is hardly a contemporary counterpart of or sucessor to the HRE.
