The basic difference between Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) and CMSA is in understanding soil, soil fertility, ploughing back crop residues, dung and role of earthworms. The main focus in INM /organic farming is external supply of nutrients to plants rather than releasing fixed nutrients or available in the soil. INM recommends external vermicompost but it ignores the role of native earthworm in the soil and it is not focusing on reactivating local earthworms in the soil which is critical for tropical countries. Further in organic farming, stopping of fertilizer application suddenly leads to drop in yields and the produce has to be paid premium rates to compensate yield loss. On a large scale this approach leads to food security problems.
