It is not enough that a person is a resident of the local body to contest an election in that local body. What is essential is that his name must be available in the concerned ward of the rural local body for which he is contesting as a Member/Councillor. To Contest as a President of a Village Panchayat, his name must find place in the Electoral Roll of the Village Panchayat. In case of Urban local bodies it is not necessary that the name of the candidate must find place in the ward from which he is contesting. But his name should be available in any one of the wards in the concern Urban local body concerned (i.e Town Panchayat, Third Grade Municipality and Corporation).
