The key codes were on a small tag on the original key ring when the car was new. Ford has a database of key codes to VIN numbers, however this database was not started at all plants until 2001, vehicles older than 2001 may not be recorded and earlier than 95 never were. You can take your VIN to your local dealer and he can check the database for the code, however to give you that code you will be required to provide proof of your identity and ownership of that vehicle and will have to pay a fee (Ford charges the dealer a fee for every access of the database). If you still have a key for the vehicle your dealer or a locksmith can “read” the old key to determine the cut code.
