Somebody really ought to tell the Southern Railway about the terrifying spectre of deflation that is supposedly stalking our economy, the nightmare prospect of ever-falling prices. Before Christmas, a typical monthly season ticket for a one-hour journey to Victoria or London Bridge cost about £177. After Christmas, it weighed in at £193. That’s deflation 2009-style.
