Wheres Kate Winslet when ya need her?
Is it just me or did Meg Ryan’s weight collapse into a two-digit figure? It even shows in her face. Oh, but wait’ll you see the hair! It looks almost like she shaved her head and then someone spilled spaghetti all over it. You’d think if they wanted to go for a certain look they could have just used some CGI; probably would’ve been cheaper too. Anyways, as far as the character goes, you can count on the usual here. She has a guy, but she doesn’t know who he really is (see also City of Angels, You’ve Got Mail), has another guy who plays the competition (Jordan, Tom Hanks in real life), and somewhere there is a dog that is half her size. How and when she discovers the true ID of her lover-to-be is where the differences lie. Hugh Jackman plays a flawless Leopold. Obviously he is helped a great deal by his clothing and his script (WOW). But the accent is all his, and playing an 1876 duke trapped in the future and interacting with his surroundings is a true task. He probably gets comfortabl
