Answer to #4: In regards to recess, music and art as well as the other “under-represented” academic subjects such as science and social studies, we are committed to protecting these essential components of our childrens’ education. We will strongly advocate that MCPS and the BOE look into other aspects of the day in their search for ways to accommodate PE by stressing the importance of a WELL ROUNDED education and one that will provide our children with all the tools they need to succeed in life. We will work to ensure that recess is not eliminated to accommodate additional PE instructional minutes. Recess represents an essential component of our children’s education that remains distinct from physical education.
