Whether READ 180 Next Generation is deployed as a local installation in the district or is hosted by Scholastic, we recommend that the media is installed at the school or district for optimal performance. Where necessary to improve performance and reduce network congestion, Scholastic will recommend installing the Scholastic Media Accelerator (SMA), a software application used to set up a specialized media server within a district to deliver the rich media assets (audio, video, and animations). The SMA improves overall performance by moving these large files closer to the student, thereby reducing bandwidth contention with other programs that may be using the district’s Internet connection. One or more SMAs may be installed depending on the size of the district and number of concurrent users expected. The SMA software can be installed in a Macintosh, Windows, or Linux computer.
