Penalty Kicks are also known as Penalty Shootouts and they are used to decide the wining team when there is a draw between the teams. It was proposed by the referee Karl Wald in 1970. It is not known exactly who saved the first penalty kick as it was used in domestic and league matches. However, the first known case of penalty shootout was in 1970 when Hull City and Manchester United were playing together. The first footballer who attempted the penalty kick was George Best and the first to miss the shootout was Denis Law.
