After White Star Line had confirmed there was loss of life in the Titanic disaster, they chartered the ship MacKay-Bennett to retrieve the bodies. A total of 338 bodies were eventually recovered. Many were taken to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where the majority of the unclaimed dead were buried in Fairview Cemetary.
