Where Was Tracey Emin Born?
Controversial artist Tracey Emin was born in Croydon .in July 1963. She was brought up with twin brother Paul in Margate in Kent. Her father was an ethnic Turkish Cypriot who was married to a woman other than her mother. He divided his time between his two families. The family was quite well-off until the failure of the Hotel International in Margate which her father owned. After this, the family suffered a downturn in their fortunes and these events have featured in several of Emin’s works. When studying fashion at Medway College of Design, she met expelled student Billy Childish and they were together until 1986. She then studied at Maidstone Art College and then the Royal College of Art in London. Along with artist Sarah Lucas, she opened a shop in Bethnal Green in London called “The Shop”.
