Where to Install Patio Channel Drain?
Help! I am about to have a 9×16 concrete patio put in, in my yard. It will of course be sloped away from the house. Every spring, when our water table is highest, I get alot of water sitting there on the lawn (only in Spring), and also flooding the patio blocks that are there now. My contractor suggested putting the drain right into the patio, about a foot or so from the edge. Wouldn’t that weaken the edge of the patio? I thought it would be better to have it drain off the edge of the patio. In other words, have the drain dug right into the lawn, abutting the patio edge. I could also put some gravel on the edge of the drain, to keep mud out. That way the water would drain completely off the patio, and the drain could be pitched a little. Also, I wouldn’t have to break up the patio if I ever had to replace a section of the drain. Is my thinking correct, or should the channel drain be placed right into the concrete? Thanks for the help!
