Where to find a picture of Susan B. Anthony with her hair not in a bunn?
Hair was not supposed to be loose and free back then, it was supposed to be controlled. In fact it was more important to have it controlled than to have it newly clean. In that time, a woman really would not have her hair down unless she was quite young, and even then, it doesn’t seem to me that Suzy B. was that sort of girl. It would seem frivolous, coquettish, or at the very least it would connote a girl trying to make herself attractive. Nothing wrong with any of that, but Suzy B. was pretty much all business. I think wearing her hair down–and allowing a picture to be made like that–would have a trivializing effect on her message and image. I’ll be surprised if you find one.
