Where to Find a Guide to Realtime Kernel for Low Latency Audio in Ubuntu?

I haven’t been able to find any good documentation on configuring a real time kernel for pro audio in Ubuntu. I wanna use pure data for live looping performances while using some soft synths and what not and so far, Jack says my latency is 40ms. That’s not good enough and I know it can improve.
